We can see the main character in this story to show character of Norma, Dahlia, Michael, Dahlie’s father is Hussein, Dahlia’s brothers. It happens in Amman, Jordan. Hordon lost story tells the true story of murder of a young Jordanian Woman by her father because a young Jordanian woman dares to date a christian man has been exposed as a fraud.
The scandal is a setback for advocates of women’s rights in Jordan and provided a disturbing case of study how lies and distortions can masquerade ad “fact” in western discussions of the Arab world and islam. Dahlia was brutally stabbed to death by her father in 1996. Hussein has written countless articless on honor crimes in Jordan and can be credited with a a major role in Galvanizing public opinion against the practice. Sice Khouri had published Hussein’s e-mail address without her permission. Some were from Arab-Australians who felt slandered, but many more were from readers who believe that Arabs and Muslims were monsters.
On page two of her book, for example Khouri writes that the Jordan river is “no longer strong enough to flow down to Amman”. Yet, the Jordan river has never flowed anywhere near Amman, not last because it would have meant flowing uphill for a distance of one kilometer. Khouri shows the lives of a majority of Jordanian women as being akin to that of prisoners, slavishly serving men. In silence and eating their left overs she determines that no salon as shown by Khouri had ever existed. In this story it is illegal for a people or different religions to wed, let a lone date, however, Dahlia and Michael cannot help it. With the support and scheming of Norma, the are able to meet in secret for over a year.
Wanting to pieserve and protect the family name, Dahlia father and brothers takes Dahlia’s life. Dahlia was a young, beautiful Arabian Muslim living with her family, at the age of twenty five, she unexpectedly falls in love with Michael, a major in the royal Army and a catholic. For muslim woman, any relationship with a catholic man is forbidden, Dahlia was only too aware that flouting this rule could cost her life. They are deeply in love. Dahlia and Michael are only alone on a handfull of occasions, and their relationship remained entirely chaste. Although they cover their tracks meticulously, one of Dahlia’s brothers became suspicious and she is suddenly gripped by the terrifying reality of what might happen to them.
Norma khouri’s book is a gift to the memory of her found. In it she recounts a powerful and also attempts to bring to the world’s attention the continuing practice of honor killing in Jordan an ancient tradition that encourages the murder of woman considereel to hofe dishonored their families.
